Softball swept by Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team was blanked in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader with Alvernia, losing the first game 2-0 and the nightcap 6-0.

In the opener, the Bears were held to just four hits, while Alvernia (28-8) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.

Junior center fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley), junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional), junior pitcher Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) and junior catcher Samantha Sinisi (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) each had hits.

Junior pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) took the loss, as she struck out two and walked one scattering three hits.

In game two, Ursinus got eight hits but could not get a run across.

Senior third baseman Cassie Brown (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and senior designated player Kate Kehoe (Mariposa, Calif./Mariposa County) each had two hits in the loss.

Schymanski took the loss, giving up three earned runs in four innings of work.

Ursinus hosts Delaware Valley on Thursday, weather permitting.
