Take Six

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Ursinus finished its three-day, six-game schedule a perfect 6-0 as the Bears swept a critical Centennial Conference doubleheader from Muhlenberg.

The Bears took the first game 2-1, then held Muhlenberg (15-19, 8-6 Centennial) to three hits in game two in a 7-0 win.

In game one, the Bears (20-13, 9-5 Centennial) took advantage of two Muhlenberg errors to score two runs. Junior centerfielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) scored on a throwing error, while freshman designated player Deanna Madison (Exeter, Pa./Exeter Township) scored on a throwing error later in the inning.

The Bears, who only had three hits in the win, got base hits from Gentile, junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) and junior left fielder Caitlin Higgins (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional).

Junior pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) got the win to improve to 11-7. She struck out six and walked two.

In game two, Ursinus scored four times in the top of the fifth to break open a 2-0 game.

Sophomore pitcher Caitlin Whelan (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII) pitched a three-hit, two strikeout performance to move to 3-1 on the season.

Gentile finished game two 3-for-5 with a run batted in, while Whelan helped her own cause with two-run single during that fifth inning.

Pfrommer and senior second baseman Abby Sido (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) each ahd two hits in the win.

The two wins gives Ursinus a 9-5 record in the conference, and with just one conference doubleheader remaining (Saturday at home with Swarthmore), Ursinus can clinch a playoff spot with a win, or a Muhlenberg loss.
