Softball sweeps Immaculata

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus swept a doubleheader from Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference softball action.

In game one, Ursinus held the Mighty Macs to just one hit in an 8-1 win, before roaring back to take the nightcap 12-5.

In the opener, Ursinus (11-8) scored six runs in the third inning via two Immaculata (11-15) errors. The big blow was a bases loaded triple by senior third baseman Cassie Brown (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood), who then scored on a throwing error to third.  Brown finished game one 3-for-3 with four RBI.

Sophomore second baseman Monica Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and junior starting pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) each had two hits, including a triple for Bonitatis. Bonitatis and senior designated player Kate Kehoe (Mariposa, Calif./Mariposa County) each had two runs scored.

Weber gave up just the one hit, striking out eight and allowing one run, unearned.

In game two, Ursinus trailed 4-0 early, then scored two in the third and eight in the fifth to rally back. Brown and junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) had triples in the game. Freshman designated player Nikki Djambinov (Ventnor City, N.J./Atlantic City) was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Brown also had three hits.

Pfrommer, junior shortstop Kelsey Coyne (Stowe, PA./Pottsgrove), junior centerfielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) and Brown each had two runs scored.

Weber got the win in relief of sophomore pitcher Caitlin Whelan (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII). Weber pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

Ursinus will host Washington on Thursday.
