Softball splits with Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Ursinus split a pair of games on Saturday with regional power Moravian, winning the first game 1-0 then falling 11-0 in six innings in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Bears (9-8) scored the game's lone run in the third inning as senior designated player Kate Kehoe (Mariposa, Calif./Mariposa County) walked with the bases loaded to force in junior centerfielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley). Gentile had singled with one out in the inning, then advanced to second a single by junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional). A single by junior catcher Emelie McFarland (Sykesville, Md./Century) loaded the bases.

The one run was more than enough for junior pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) who improved to 4-2 on the year with a five-hit shutout. She struck out five and did not walk a batter.

McFarland finished with two hits in the opener.

In the second game, six of Moravian's (13-7) hits were home runs, including a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Ursinus was held to two hits, as Gentile and Weber each hit safely.

Junior pitcher Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) took the loss, falling to 3-3. She gave up three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Ursinus will host Immaculata on Tuesday.
