LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team split its Centennial Conference opener with Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears lost the first game 4-3 in nine innings, while rallying in game two to take a 7-5 decision from the Diplomats.

In the opener, the Bears (7-6, 1-1 Centennial) took a 3-0 lead after three innings as shortstop Junior Kelsey Coyne (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove) had an RBI single in the second and freshman catcher Nikki Djambinov (Ventnor City, N.J./Atlantic City) had a two-run home run in the third.

F&M would score two in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie the game, then scored the game-winning run with two outs in the inning on an error on a fielder's choice.

Coyne finished game one with two hits.

Junior pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) took the loss in game one, striking out five and walking two in 8.1 innings of work.

In game two, the bats came alive in the fourth innings as the Bears plated four runs in the top half of the frame. Junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) had the big hit in the inning, with a three-run triple to centerfield.

In the sixth, Ursinus added two more as junior centerfielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) had a run scoring triple, then scored on a RBI double by junior catcher Emelie McFarland (Sykesvile, Md./Century).

Junior pitcher Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) got the win, as she allowed three hits and one run in 4.2 innings of work. She struck out two.

Pfrommer finished 4-for-4 with four RBI while Gentile and Djambinov had two hits each.

Ursinus hosts nationally-ranked Rowan on Thursday.
