Softball drops pair to Muhlenberg

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team dropped a Centennial Conference doubleheader to Muhlenberg on Tuesday by scores of 7-2 and 8-7. Despite the two losses, the Bears (17-16, 10-6 Centennial) clinched the fourth and final playoff spot with a F&M loss to Dickinson later in the evening. The Bears will travel to Dickinson to take on the Red Devils at noon Saturday.

In game one, Muhlenberg broke open a 1-1 tie in the fifth with four runs and then added two more in the seventh off of sophomore starter Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley). She gave up three earned runs in seven innings of work, while fanning four and walking three.

For the Bears, sophomore first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) had two hits and a RBI, while sophomore center fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) had a RBI.

In game two, Ursinus had a 7-5 lead in the sixth, before Muhlenberg scored three runs in the top of the inning to take the lead for good.

Weber, who got the loss in relief of freshman starter Caitlin Whelan (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII), was 3-for-4, while Gentile and junior catcher Rachel Vietheer (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had two hits each.

Ursinus takes on Alvernia on Thursday.
