Softball swept by regional power Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Ursinus dropped a pair of non-conference games on Sunday afternoon to regional power Rowan University. In game one, the Profs scored four times in the first inning on their way to a 6-2 while, while Rowan (16-5) defeated Ursinus (8-10) 2-1 in game two.

In the first game, Rowan took a 5-0 lead after three innings. In the fifth, Ursinus got on the board as sophomore first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) hit a one-out home run to right field. Ursinus would score one more time in the seventh as sophomore outfielder Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) scored on a double to right by sophomore outfielder Samantha Lowes (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan).

Junior catcher Rachael Vietheer (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) finished with two hits in the opener for the Bears.

Freshman pitcher Caitlin Whelan (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII) took the loss, falling to 2-6. She struck out four and walked two in six innings of work.

In game two, Ursinus tied Rowan in the top of the second as senior third baseman Kristen Gallagher (Newtown Square, Pa./Newtown Square) scored on a sacrifice fly by junior second baseman Cassie Brown (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood). Rowan would take the lead in the bottom of the inning, and hold Ursinus to two hits the rest of the way.

Gallagher finished game two with two hits.

Weber took the loss in game two, striking out three and allowing just five hits.

Ursinus goes to Washington College on Wednesday.
