Softball 6-0 after first half of Florida trip

OSCEOLA, Fla. – The Ursinus College softball team closed the first half of their Spring Break schedule with a perfect 6-0 mark on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Geneva 10-5 and Bluffton 7-1.

The team started the trip on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Greensboro (N.C.) and a 3-2 win over Dubuque. On Monday, the team defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy 7-1, then knocked off Adrian 5-0. 

In the Greensboro game, senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica Hill, N.J/Clearview Regional) allowed just four hits and struck out 12. Kristin Gallagher (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) went 1-for-2 with a run scored, while freshman Alllison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Against Dubuque, Davis had four strikeouts in two innings, while freshman pitcher Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) had two strikeouts in four innings.

Weber was 2-for-2 with the game-winning RBI, while sophomore Abby Sido (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) was 3-for-3.

On Tuesday, Pfrommer pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two against Merchant Marine. Kalovcak had two hits, as did Sido.

Against Adrian, Davis threw a one-hitter while fanning ten. Freshman Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) had two hits and two runs scored.

Against Geneva, Davis went 2.2 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and three strikeouts. Kalovcak was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while sophomore Cassie Brown (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had four RBI and two runs scored.

Finally, in the win over Bluffton, Davis had 12 strikeouts in a complete-game two hitter. Gentile was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, including a triple. Freshman Caitlin Higgins (Mickelton, N.J/Kingsway Regional) was 2-for-4 with two RBI. 

Ursinus concludes its trip with games on Thursday and Friday.
