PREVIEW: Men's Track & Field Primed to Host 2022 Centennial Outdoor Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Ursinus College men's track and field team will begin competition in the three-day Centennial Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Patterson Field starting on Friday afternoon.

 

 

 

The Bears' hosted the Centennial Indoor Championships back in February and this will be the first time hosting the outdoor championships since 2018. With a deep relay arsenal and some firepower in other events, the men's track and field team looks to contend for the Centennial crown once again after finishing third in 2021 with a program-record 147 points.

 

 

 

The Bears earned 56 points and one first-place vote to place second in the preseason poll among the Centennial coaches back in March, just behind seven-time defending champion Johns Hopkins.

 

 

Ursinus has three individuals with the top-seed in their respective events and 18 within the top-five. A pair of Bear relay teams competing are also enter as the top-seed. Senior Nick Galbraith (51.67 meters) leads a 1-2 start for Ursinus in the hammer throw with junior Isaiah Battle (48.86 meters). Battle also ranks second in the discus throw (43.74 meters) and sixth in the shot put (13.72 meters). Freshman Brody Myers seeks to sweep golds in the indoor and outdoor season pole vaults as he enters with a school-record mark of 4.71 meters.  Myers has recorded the four best marks for the event in the Centennial this season and is .56 clear of the second-ranked pole vaulter coming into the championships. Senior Tyler Reilly holds the top mark in the 200-meter dash at 22.04 and the second-fastest mark in the 400-meter dash at 49.04. Reilly also will enter the 200-meter dash in second with a time of 22.85. Reilly will look to win his 200-meter dash gold in the outdoor season after claiming the indoor one back in February and his second career gold in the 400-meter dash after winning it during his freshman season of 2019.

 

 

Junior Daniel Maloney enters as the second seed in the 110-meter hurdles with his top time of 15.08 Junior Daniel Tabor holds three top-10 seeds with the highest being fourth in the 400-meter dash on his best time of 49.78. Senior Zach Crebbin leads the jumping events with a third seed in the high jump after posting a mark this season of 2.00 meters.

 

 

 

The Bears hold seeds three through five in the javelin that is led by freshman standout, Chase Shaneman, who recorded a top mark of 51.55 meters. Reilly and Tabor are joined by junior Payton Stanziani with top-five seeds in the 400-meter dash on his third-fastest time of 49.57. Sophomore Devon Greaves holds the current fourth-best time (57.39) in the 400-meter hurdles and junior Pat Patterson-Zuber paces a trio of top-10 seeds for the shot put in fourth (13.81 meters).
