Five Bears Win Events at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – Six Bears competed and five won their events as the Ursinus College track and field teams wrapped up their seasons at the Salisbury Final Qualifier on Tuesday.

The last-chance meet served its purpose as an NCAA outdoor championships tune-up for Evan Giannetti and Isabelle Deal, who are almost certainly off to nationals next week to compete in the javelin. Giannetti, who ranks 10th in Division III, threw 179-2 on Tuesday, while Deal marked 133-9. The star sophomore is currently 14th in the country in the event. Deal also captured first in the shot put at 38-11.60.

Giles Daly, Griffin McMann, and Tyler Reilly all joined the NCAA-bound pair in winning their respective events. Daly completed the steeplechase in 9:58.17; his season-best time of 9:37.78 places him 61st on the Division III outdoor performance list.

McMann won the shot put at 49-10 and placed second in the discus (134-2). He ends his remarkable career, one highlighted by five Centennial Conference gold medals, at No. 32 in the country in the shot put and No. 45 in the discus.

Reilly won the 400-meter dash at 49.88, edging conference rival Mickey van Gieson by .04 seconds. He ranks No. 67 in the nation in the event with a top time of 49.22.
