McMann wins Hammer Gold

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Griffin McMann reset his own program record one more time to secure gold in the hammer throw on Friday, one of four place-winners for the Ursinus College men's track and field team during the first event of the Centennial Conference championships.

McMann blew away his former personal record – which he had already established three times this spring – by over five feet with a mark of 154-11.75 on his fifth attempt of a windswept afternoon in Collegeville. It marked the third career gold medal for the senior, who also owns conference crowns in the shot put and weight throw from last year's indoor meet.

With four of the top six finishers, the Bears racked up 25 points to take the team lead heading into Sunday, when the championship meet shifts to Muhlenberg.

The 2019 hammer throw champion, Nick Galbraith, secured silver at 142-3. The medal was the fourth in the career of Galbraith, who also won the weight throw as a rookie.

George Psaradakis was fifth with a 128-1.75, just shy of his career best. The senior, who finished sixth at the 2019 outdoor championships, is now a 4-time place-winner at conference championships.

Isaiah Battle became a first-time place-winner on Friday, taking sixth with a career-best 122-11.5.

Tim Holzapfel grabbed a new PR at 118-6 for the Bears.
