Men's T&F Surges up CC Charts in NYC

NEW YORK – The Ursinus College men's track and field team put on a show at the historic Armory Friday night, seizing a pair of Centennial Conference-leading marks to finish fourth in a 27-team field at the NYC Invitational.

Daniel Maloney took more than a quarter of a second off his collegiate best in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fourth in the prelims with a sizzling time of 8.57 seconds. The clocking is the lowest in the CC this season, and the best by an Ursinus man since Evan Shea's 8.56 in 2015.

Austin Bittenbender, who has already rewritten the program record books in the heptathlon, took over top billing in the CC with a 22.74 in the 200-meter dash. Tyler Reilly vaulted into the top-5 with a 23.46 in his season debut.

Octavious Carter was second in the 60-meter dash prelims at 7.08 before settling for fourth in the finals.

Andre Kelly clocked a 1:58.47 in the 800, good for third in the conference and the fastest time in a series of PRs for the mid-distance crew as Dylan Simms (2:04.10), Colin McCarty (2:05.47), and Payton Stanziani (2:05.93) all logged career lows.

Griffin McMann continued his impressive indoor campaign with a runner-up showing in the shot put (47-7.75), where Nick Galbraith was ninth at 43-7.25.

Zach Crebbin was a double place-winner in the jumping events, taking third in the long jump (21-6.25) and fourth in the high jump (6-4.00). Bittenbender finished ninth in the long jump (21-00), while Daniel Tabor unlocked a new personal best in the triple jump (39-6.50).

Marcos Maciel led a nice all-around effort by the milers, just missing a PR and nearly cracking the top-10 in the CC with a 4:30.74. Edward Martinez blasted his personal best by over 10 seconds with a 4:36.03, Kyle Berardi missed his by less than a tenth of a tick (4:37.27), and Jesse Wun shaved five seconds off his previous record with a 4:43.62.

Bittenbender, Simms, Stanziani, and Kelly turned in a terrific performance in the 4x400-meter relay, lowering the Bears' season-best time to 3:28.87 to move within just over a second of CC-leading Johns Hopkins.

Berardi, Martinez, and Maciel joined Brandon Slaboda to place seventh in the distance medley relay (11:15.13).

James McDaid clocked in at 9:20.57 in the 3000 meters, and Brody Johnson secured a massive PR in the 60 hurdles at 10.30 seconds.

The Bears host the annual Frank Colden Invitational next Saturday.
