Men's 4x400 Competes at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Patrick Mekongo anchored with a 49.91 split as the Ursinus College men's track & field representative placed fifth in Friday's Pop Haddleton MAC heat of the 4x400-meter relay at the Penn Relays.

The Bears group – comprised of freshman Andre Kelly, junior Jequan Mitchell, freshman Codi Yhap, and Mekongo – clocked a time of 3:22.08, the second-best mark in the Centennial Conference this season. Johns Hopkins, which posted a 3:18.49, owns the top time. Ursinus' time was its best in the event since 2015.

Kelly led off with a 51.36 split, and Mitchell followed with a 50.92. Yhap navigated the Franklin Field track in 50.38 seconds before Mekongo closed with his 49.91, one of 13 sub-50 splits among the nine relay teams.

The Bears beat out Messiah by .03 seconds to land inside the top five.

The men's track and field team concludes the outdoor season at the Centennial Conference Championships, set for May 5-7 at Johns Hopkins.
