Pope Takes Silver in Triple Jump

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – It was a light but successful day for the Ursinus College men's track and field team on the first day of competition at the Centennial Conference indoor championships, as the Bears gained nine points from the only two events in which they were entered.

With most of the action on tap for Sunday, Haverford leads the men's standings with 27 points. Johns Hopkins is second with 20, followed by Swarthmore (19), Gettysburg (16), Muhlenberg (11), Ursinus (9), Dickinson (7), McDaniel (4), and Franklin & Marshall (4).

Sophomore Sam Pope came up just short in his bid to become the second student-athlete in program history to win multiple gold medals in the triple jump. He settled for silver with a mark of 42-11.50, with Swarthmore's Daniel Belkin (44-1.25) capturing gold with a season-best performance.

The distance medley unit comprised of entirely of freshmen –  John Haase, Austin Bittenbender, Andre Kelly, and James McDaid – picked up a point with an eighth-place finish on a time of 10:51.66.

The CC championship concludes Sunday, starting with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 10 a.m.
