Mackin Places 16th at NCAA Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa – Senior Andrew Mackin closed out his record-setting career with a 16th-place showing in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships at Wartburg College.

Mackin, the first Ursinus man to compete at the national meet since Chris Rountree in 2013, ran a 1:53.92 to finish fifth in his heat. The top two from each heat and the best two remaining times qualified for tomorrow's finals.

A standout in both cross country and track and field, Mackin leaves Ursinus with three program records in tow: the indoor 500 and 4x400-meter relay and the outdoor 4x400-meter relay. A three-time Centennial Conference champion, Mackin became the first Ursinus man to win the 800 at the CC indoor championship this season. He was an all-region honoree for both the indoor and outdoor campaign, and his outdoor qualifying time of 1:50.69 is the best by a Bear since 1961.

This year Mackin was a recipient of the Ehret Prize, given to a senior who has excelled in athletics.
