Men's Track and Field Finishes 7th at CC Championship

CARLISLE, Pa. – Freshman Sam Pope's triple jump gold highlighted the third and final day of competition for the Ursinus College men's track and field team at the Centennial Conference outdoor championship, which ended with the Bears in seventh place.

Johns Hopkins made it a three-peat with 222 team points, followed by Haverford (174), Franklin & Marshall (77), Swarthmore and Muhlenberg (71), Gettysburg (60.33), Ursinus (56.33), Dickinson (46), and McDaniel (38.33).

Pope added an outdoor triple jump title to his indoor crown, dominating the rest of the field with a personal-best 46-9.00 that stands just eight inches off the school record and ranks him 27th in Division III. Pope is the first Ursinus man to win the triple jump at the outdoor championship since Chris Rountree, who accomplished the feat in both 2011 and 2013; Pope is also the first athlete to take gold in both the indoor and outdoor event since Rountree did it three years ago.

Pope placed fifth in the long jump (20-6.25), where sophomore Jequan Mitchell wound up in ninth (19-9.50), just shy of earning points.

The quartet of Mitchell, senior Erich Keyser, senior Skyler McCormick, and sophomore Patrick Mekongo turned in a silver medal showing in the 4x100-meter relay; their clocking of 43.56 was an ECAC qualifier.

Senior Andrew Mackin collected a bronze medal in the 800, finishing in 1:56.52 to cross behind only Muhlenberg's Anthony Calantoni and Haverford's Charlie Marquardt.

Keyser was impressive in the 110-meter hurdles, shaving .15 seconds off his previous collegiate record to notch a 15.68 and a fifth-place effort. He also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.34).

Mitchell placed in a pair of sprinting events, crossing the line fifth in the 200-meter dash – where he lowered his personal record to 22.68 – and sixth in the 100-meter dash, trimming .04 seconds off Saturday's personal record to log an 11.24.

Sophomore Adam Myers placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 44-6.00, and classmate Antonio Goode produced a season-best by over a foot (39-2.25) and finished 14th.

Myers and junior Thomas Donnelly each earned points in the javelin. Donnelly's mark of 160-6.00 was good for sixth place, while Myers recorded a new season best with a 155-10 that landed him one spot behind in seventh.

Mitchell, McCormick, Keyser, and Mackin placed sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:25.70).
