4x4 record falls as Men's Track and Field shines at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's track and field team had a very successful two days at the Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester University.

Headlining the weekend was a new school record in the 4x4, as the team of Darius Jones, Richard Schulz, Drew Mackin and Patrick Mekongo finished third in the event with a time of 3:195. They currently sit 15th in Division III. During the relay, all four members ran a 50 second leg or flatter. Mekongo anchored the relay in an impressive 48 second leg.

The team of Jones, Schulz, Evan Shea and Tony Sierzega finished fourth in the 4x1 relay with a time of 44.2

In the sprints, Jones was second in the 100 at 11.1, while Sierzega was 13th with a time of 11.6, a personal best.

In the 200, Mekongo was third with a time of 22.5, while Jones was fifth with a time of 22.7. Sierzega finished with a time of 23.3, just off his personal best by .1.

In the 400, Mitchell Kelly hit a personal best  of 53 seconds.

The 800 saw Andrew Mackin go 13th at two minutes flat, while Vincent Flood went 2:05 and hit a Centennial qualifying standard.

In the 1500, Joseph Iuliucci won his heat with a personal best time of 4:28, while Luke Schlegel finished closely behind with a time of 4:31.

In the 110 hurdles, Evan Shea was third with a time of 15.8, while Rick Gould was seventh with a time of 17.6, a personal best.

In the 400 hurdles, Gould finished with a personal best 58 seconds.

In the field events, Jones finished third with a height of 6-6 in the high jump. The shot put saw Adam Myers throw a 41-7, a personal best outdoors and a third place finish.

Finally, Tom Donnelly finished fourth in the javelin at just under 170, a personal best.
