Men's Track and Field enjoys success at Muhlenberg meet

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Competing along with 15 teams, the Ursinus College men's track and field team batted cold and windy conditions at the non-scoring Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday.

Starting with the track events, sophomore Patrick Mekongo (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Pope John XXIII) won the 200 with a time of 22.7. That time was a season best, and came as he was running in a 20 mile per hour head wind. Senior Darius Jones (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights) was fifth with a time of 23.2. Senior Miles Perkins (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) finished just outside the top ten with a time of 23.7, just off his personal best.

In the 400, Mekongo and Perkins both had season bests. Mekongo finished with a time of 51.06 in third place while Perkins was sixth with a time of 51.4.

In the 800, junior Nolan Davis (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) battled back from injury and ran a 2:05 in his first race of the season. He achieved the conference standard in the 800.

In the 1500, junior Andrew Mackin (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) was tenth with a time of 4:13, while in the 5k , freshman Joseph Iulicci (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) was third overall with a time of 16:09 which was 30 seconds better than his personal record.

In the 110 hurdles, senior Evan Shea (Acton-Boxborough, Mass./Acton) was fifth with a time of 15.6, while junior Erich Keyser (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was sixth in the 400 hurdles a time of 57.8.

In the field events, Jones was fourth in the high jump with a height of 6-2, while senior Richard Schulz (Village Shires, Pa./George School) was eighth in the long jump at 19-8.

In the shot and discus, freshman Adam Myers (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) threw over 40 feet in the shot and 118-8 in the discus which was good enough for top 15 in both events.

In the javelin, sophomore Thomas Donnelly (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) threw a 156-3 which was good enough for seventh place, while Myers threw a 132-6 which was good enough for 12th place and a spot in the Centennial Conference Championship.

In the relays, the team of freshman Jequan Mitchell (Bridgeport, Pa./Upper Merion), Schulz, Jones and senior Anthony Sierzega (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixvile) was third in the 4x1 with a time of 44.1, while the team of Mekongo, Jones, Schulz and junior Andrew Mackin won the 4x4 with a time of 3:22, just off the school record.
