Men's Track takes top spot at Ursinus Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – With Thursday afternoon's Ursinus Invitational serving as the final meet before the upcoming Centennial Conference Championships, the Ursinus College men's track and field team took first with a team score of 195, edging second place York (Pa.) who had 146 points.

Senior Brendan Gifford was a double winner on the day, as he won the 400 meter dash at 52.16, with a top performance in the 800 at 1:59.79.

Ursinus posted two other first place finishes on the day in the distance events as sophomore Sam Stortz won the mile run at 4:37.36, with freshman Jatin Narang winning the 3k at 9:06.83.

Sophomore Chris Rountree won the 55 hurdles at 7.90 and also captured the triple jump at 45 feet, 5 inches.

Junior Andrew Carr was the top finisher in the shot put at 45 feet, 11.75 inches.

In the relays, the Bears won the 4x2 with the team of sophomore Jordan Grannum, freshman Ian Wiggins, junior Lance Jones and Rountree winning the event at 1:35.68, while the team of Wiggins, Rountree, Jones and Grannum won the 4x4 with a time of 3:31.03 in a friendly matchup of the Ursinus sprinters versus the distance runners. The distance runners, made up of Gifford, senior Jeremy Garavel, junior Ben Mosher and freshman Tyler Gofus took second at 3:33.95.

Back to the sprints, Jones was second in the 55 at 6.68 with Grannum going third at 6.70. In the 200, Grannum was second at 23.44, with Rountree crossing the line at 23.59.

In the 400, Wiggins was fourth at 53.66. Garavel was second in the 800 at 2:00.10, with Gofus going fifth at 2:05.93.

In the mile run, junior Nick Pane was second at 4:39.16, with junior Bogdan Lisachenko in fifth at 4:42.18.

Sophomore Mark Gapinski was fifth in the 5k at 16:12.99.

Freshman Chris Flood picked up a fifth place finish in the 55 hurdles at 8.88.

In the field events, senior Charles Prete was third at 5 feet, 6 inches, and was fifth in the long jump at 18 feet, 2.5 inches.

In the shot put, senior Ian Macomber was third at 40 feet, 2 inches, with freshman Brian Clancy in fourth at 38 feet, 7.75 inches.
