Men's Tennis Earns Dominant 9-0 Win over Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Mules fell to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

 

Ursinus jumped on the Mules right from the start as they swept the doubles matches to take the initial 3-0 lead. The No. 3 singles team of junior Noah Mandel and sophomore Ethan Yu defeated Josh Benson and Derek George 8-0 before sophomores Rob Ritchie and Darby Rogers followed with an 8-0 triumph of their own over Noah Katz and Isaac Shulman at the No. 2 spot. Sophomores Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Daniel Kantor and Andrey Agajanov at No. 1 singles.

 

Mandel got singles started with a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win over George at the No. 5 position and Rogers locked up the match early with a straight-set 6-0. 6-0 win of his own over Benson. Senior Simbarashe Kanjanda returned to action by defeating Shulman 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles and Ritchie dispatched Katz 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Oberholtzer took down Agajanov 6-1. 6-2 at the No. 2 spot and Jespersen closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kantor at No.1 singles. The Bears lost just 10 games total through the nine matches.

 

The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 9th as they will host Washington College in Centennial action for senior day at 1 p.m. from Perkiomen Valley High School.
