Men's Tennis Places Three on All-CC Team

2016 All-CC Men's Tennis

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team placed three of its members on the All-Centennial Conference Team, announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

Sophomore Max Oberholtzer was named a first team selection in singles and joined freshman Paul Vecchio as a second team doubles honoree, while senior captain Tyler Arsenault was recognized on the second team singles roster. The three All-CC selections marked a program record for the Bears, who finished 12-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play and garnered the first regional ranking in school history.

Oberholtzer joins Evan Stutchin, a first team honoree in 2013 and 2014, as the only players in program history to earn first team singles status. The sophomore took over the number one slot on the ladder and never looked back, going 17-4 overall (16-3 dual) in individual competition. Oberholtzer finished 7-2 in CC matches, falling only to Swarthmore's Mark Fallati (ranked 8th in the ITA Atlantic South) and Franklin & Marshall's Doug Kaplan (No. 15). He knocked off Wilkes' Courtney Murphy, at the time ranked 25th in the region, on April 17.

Vecchio proved a potent addition to the Ursinus lineup, registering a 13-4 record between fifth and sixth singles and teaming with Oberholtzer to go 10-9 in the first doubles flight against the highest competition offered by a league that features seven regionally ranked schools. The young duo's biggest win came against Washington College, when the Bears' top tandem pulled out a 9-8 (5) decision to help sour Ursinus to a 5-4 victory, its first ever against a regionally ranked foe.

Arsenault polished off his stellar career with his second appearance on the All-CC squad following a second team doubles nod last season. The veteran finished 14-7 overall (13-6 dual) at the second singles spot, including a 7-2 mark in CC contests. Arsenault picked up straight-set wins against the number two singles representatives from nationally ranked F&M and Johns Hopkins and closed his final season with three-set triumphs against Haverford and Muhlenberg.

Arsenault made history in a non-conference rout at Cabrini on March 30, registering his 100th career victory to join Stutchin as the only players in team history to reach the century milestone. He joined fellow senior co-captain Dalton Lynch for a 13-8 doubles mark (12-7 dual) and was also selected to the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team.

Lynch represented the Bears on the CC's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
