Men's Tennis Splits Singles Play at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team picked up a trio of three-set victories in singles competition at Haverford on Tuesday, but the Fords' sweep of doubles play ensured the individual split was more than enough to secure a 6-3 Centennial Conference result.

Haverford (13-2, 7-1), which is ranked 13th in the Atlantic South region, remained unbeaten in 73 all-time meetings with Ursinus, a series that dates back a century to 1916.

Despite the setback, the Bears (11-7, 3-5) registered three points against the Fords for only the second time since 1988.

After suffering a sweep in doubles, Ursinus came out on top of half the singles courts, two of which overcame a first-set loss. Sophomore Max Oberholtzer dropped the first set, 6-2, to Josh Moskovitz, but rallied to win the second by a 6-3 count and forcr a super tiebreaker. He registered a 10-7 triumph there, handing Moskovitz his first dual-match loss of the season (11-1). In the process, Oberholtzer improved to 16-4 (15-3 dual) on the year.

Senior Tyler Arsenault recorded his 12th dual-match singles win with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 result at second singles.

Freshman Paul Vecchio moved to 12-4 with a three-set win of his own at fifth singles, shaking off a tough first set to post a 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision over Zack Mason.

The Bears finish out the regular season with a CC match at Muhlenberg on Saturday, April 30.
