Men's Tennis Terrorizes McDaniel on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team honored captains Tyler Arsenault and Dalton Lynch in a big way on Senior Day, dominating McDaniel on the way to their first Centennial Conference sweep.

The Bears (11-6, 3-4) dropped a grand total of six games in winning their third consecutive CC match, simultaneously keeping McDaniel (0-11, 0-7) winless on the season.

Ursinus lost only one game in doubles play, with Arsenault and Lynch teaming for an 8-0 shutout at second doubles, a figure matched by junior Chanton Phan and sophomore Peter Shields at number three. Sophomore Max Oberholtzer and freshman Paul Vecchio were 8-1 winners at first doubles.

Oberholtzer scored a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) against Will Giles at number one singles, while Arsenault and Lynch each rolled to 6-0, 6-1 victories at second and third, respectively. Phan cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at number four, and Vecchio (8-0) and Shields (8-1) coasted in pro sets at fifth and sixth.

Ursinus closes the regular season with road matches at Haverford (4/26) and Muhlenberg (4/30).

Coach's Corner

"Today was a great day for us to honor Tyler and Dalton," head coach Pete Smith said. "I have had a great four years with them, and when they leave, they are going to take over 150 victories with them, not to mention being outstanding co-captains who were tremendous leaders for this squad.  They gave me everything they had for four years, and were exemplary student-athletes in every sense of the word. I salute them and all they have done, and we will miss them in a big way next year."
