Oberholtzer Tabbed CC Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College sophomore Max Oberholtzer was selected as the Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Oberholtzer won both of his matches at first singles and both of his doubles contests alongside freshman Paul Vecchio for the Bears, who extended the best start in school history to 7-0 with victories over Lebanon Valley and Juniata, which won a first-round match in the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

Oberholtzer was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at number one singles against the Dutchmen before outlasting Juniata's Matyas Kohout in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 final. The sophomore and Vecchio rallied from a 7-5 deficit against the Eagles' top tandem, posting a 9-7 verdict to complete a sweep of doubles play and give Ursinus the breathing room it needed to register an impressive non-conference triumph.

Oberholtzer has been dominant in the top singles flight for the Bears, going a perfect 7-0 in dual matches. He is 5-2 at number one doubles with Vecchio.

Ursinus will look to keep its unbeaten mark intact when it welcomes Swarthmore – ranked No. 31 in Division III – to campus for its Centennial Conference opener on Wednesday, March 23.
