KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team served up its spring debut in style, sweeping Northwestern (Minn.), 9-0, on Monday evening in Florida. The Bears dropped only ten singles games, putting together an impressive dual-match opener.

Sophomore Max Oberholtzer and freshman Paul Vecchio combined for an 8-1 rout on the top doubles court, and junior transfer Chanton Phan joined sophomore Peter Shields to prevail by the same count at number three. In the closest match of the night, senior captains Tyler Arsenault and Dalton Lynch captured an 8-4 decision at second doubles.

Oberholtzer was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at first singles, while Arsenault (6-2, 6-0) and Lynch (6-1, 6-2) were dominant at second and third, respectively.  Phan rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph in his Bear singles debut out of the number four flight, and Vecchio registered a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing in his first individual collegiate match. Shields rounded out the singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number six.

Monday's blanking marked the third straight year that the Bears swept their season opener.
