The Ursinus College Men's Tennis Team split a pair of very competitive matches Tuesday, downing Illinois Wesleyan 5-4 before falling to Oneonta State, 7-2.
The Bears (4-1) played the singles first against Illinois Wesleyan, and found themselves in a 3-3 deadlock. Tyler Arsenault, Dalton Lynch and Mike Melchiorre paced the Bears with wins at 2, 4 and 6 respectively.
After dropping the first doubles match, the Bears found themselves down 4-3 with only 2 matches left on the court. The second and third doubles teams came through in a big way, and within minutes of each other. Lynch and sophomore Henry Burke continued their stellar play with an 8-5 win at second doubles. Shortly thereafter, Melchiorre and freshman Peter Lynch completed the comeback with a tense 8-6 win in the third flight.
In the night match, the Bears ran into a tough Oneonta State team. Ursinus came up empty in the doubles matches, facing a 3-0 deficit heading into the singles.
Ursinus got some great perfomances at the top of the line up. Caleb Kramer was a winner at first flight singles, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7, and Tyler Arsenault was flawless in a 6-0, 6-0 win in the second flight. The Bears came up empty in the other slots, and fell 7-2.
The Bears hit the courts again Wednesday with matches against Cornell College (IA) and Monmouth College (IL).
