Inside Out
The Ursinus College Men's Tennis team battled inside and outside on Saturday, beating Lebanon Valley College 9-0 on the indoor courts of the Floy Lewis Bakes Fieldhouse in the morning, before stepping outside and sweeping Scranton 9-0 on the Ace Bailey Courts in the afternoon.
The Bears (2-0) got off to a fast start against Lebanon Valley, sweeping the doubles matches to set the tome for the match.  The first doubles team of freshmen Max Oberholtzer and Caleb Kramer, second doubles team of Tyler Arsenault and Henry Burke, and third doubles team of Mike Melchiorre and Peter Shields combined to give the Ursinus a 3-0 lead while dropping only three games in three matches.
In singles it was more of the same as Kramer, Oberholtzer, Arsenault, Melchiorre, Dalton Lynch and Jordan Hodess all won in straight sets to to complete the 9-0 victory.
As the skies cleared, the Bears went outside to face Scranton in the afternoon.  Once again, the doubles duos staked the home team to a 3-0 lead.  After Arsenault and Burke opened the match with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles, Oberholtzer and Kramer quickly followed suit with an 8-3 victory at #1 doubles.  In the third doubles flight, Melchiorre and Lynch fell into a huge hole as Scranton led the match 6-1.  The Ursinus tandem then came up with a furious rally, coming back to win 8 of the last 9 games and escape with a 9-7 victory.
In singles, the Bears swept all six matches in straight sets.  Oberholtzer (6-3, 6-1 winner) and Kramer (6-0, 6-3 winner) led the way at first and second singles, respectively.  Arsenault, Burke, Lynch and Shields all won convincingly to close the scoring for the Bears.
The sweep closed the fall portion of the schedule for Ursinus.  The Bears will continue their season in March of 2015 when they head to Orlando, Florida for their annual Spring Break trip.
