CAMDEN, NJ - The Ursinus College Men's Tennis team defeated Rutgers-Camden 8-1 today, giving the Bears their 12th win of the season. The 12 wins tie a mark reached only twice before in program history, in 1985 and 2012.
The Bears (12-5) once again got off to a strong start in doubles against the Scarlet Raptors (7-5). Mike Melchiorre and Dalton Lynch got Ursinus on the board first with an 8-1 win in the third flight. The second doubles tandem of Tyler Arsenault and Alex Elbogen followed with an identical 8-1 win, and the first flight team of Evan Stutchin and Evan Lord closed the doubles portion of the match with an 8-2 victory.
It was more of the same in singles for Ursinus, as they won 5 of 6 matches. Stutchin, Arsenault, Elbogen, Lynch and Melchoirre all won in straight sets to close the day out for the Bears.
Ursinus comes home in search of a record-setting 13th win on Saturday, when they host McDaniel in a critical Centennial Conference match up. With a win, the Bears would not only set the men's tennis program record for wins in a season, but they would take another big step towards a possible first-ever berth in the Centennial Conference playoffs.
Match time on Saturday is set for 1:00 pm.
