Saturday Sweep

The Ursinus College Men's Tennis went on the road defeated York 7-1 and Lebanon Valley 9-0 on Saturday, capping a succesful fall season with a 2-0 record.

In the morning match, the Bears gained a 2-1 lead after doubles play vs. York (5-1).  Evan Stutchin and Dylan Marsh prevailed at first doubles 8-6, and Tyler Arsenault and Alex Elbogen won at second doubles 8-5.

In singles, it was all Bears as they went on to the 7-1 win.  Stutchin, Arsenault, Marsh and Mike Melchiorre all won in straight sets.  Elbogen won in a third set super tie breaker, and Dalton Lynch's match at 5th singles was left unfinished after the rains came in the late morning.

The Bears then traveled to face the Dutchmen (2-1) for the afternoon portion of the doubleheader.  Every doubles match was very competitive, but the Bears found a way to win them all and assume a 3-0 lead going into singles.  Stutchin and Marsh were 2 points from defeat at 6-7 and 0-30, but they mananged to fight back for a 9-8 win.  In the tiebreak, they trailed 4-0 before a wild rally when they won 7 of the final 8 points to clinch the win.

In singles, it was once again all Bears as they won 5 of the 6 singles matches in straight sets.  Dalton Lynch was impressive at fifth singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win.  Marsh won at third singles by a 5-7, 6-1, 10-1 count, and Arsenault won 6-2, 7-5 at second singles.  Both Marsh and Arsenault completed very succesful fall seasons, as Marsh heads to the spring with a 6-0 singles record, and Arsenault finished with a 5-1 mark.

The Bears are now done until early March 2013 when they head to Orlando, FL, for Spring Break matches.
