The Ursinus College Men's Tennis team faced a pair of 2011 NCAA tournament teams on Monday and came away with a split, falling to The College of New Jersey 9-0 in the morning, but bouncing back to defeat Marywood 8-1 in the nightcap.
 
The Bears struggled early as TCNJ scored a 9-0 victory without dropping a set in the match.  The Lions, who made it to the Sweet 16 of the Division III NCAA Men's tennis tournament last spring, were most closely challenged at first singles.  T.J. Riley downed sophomore Evan Stutchin in a tightly contested 6-4, 6-3 win.
 
Things turned around as the sun went down, however, and Ursinus rolled to an 8-1  victory over Marywood.  The 6 singles matches were contested first, and the Bears had the match wrapped up before the doubles team even hit the court.  Evan Stutchin, Evan Lord, Brent Stevenson and Matt Hope all nailed down straight set victories at spots 1 thru 4 to get the Bears rolling.  Dylan Marsh then clinched the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 win at sixth singles.
 
The Bears then swept the doubles matches, highlighted by an 8-2 win at 3rd doubles by Dave Rowe and Logan Metcalf-Kelly.
 
The Bears are back in action Tuesday with another doubleheader, as they play St. Mary's (MN) at 11:30 am, and then face Cornerstone University at 6:30 pm.
