Men's Swimming Goes Down to Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team suffered its first loss of the season as it fell 149.5-108.5 on Saturday. The Bears won five events on the day.

The Bears started the day strong, winning the first two events. The team of Michael Prior, Samuel Taffet, Daniel Mueser, and Ryan Carkhuff won 200-yard medley relay, edging Swarthmore by 0.47 seconds before Liam White won the 100-yard freestyle with the time of 10:07.51. White lead the pack by nearly nine seconds in the win.

Ursinus and Swarthmore shared the 13 points designated between first and second after Jacob Menzer tied with the Garnet's Ben Freeman in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.80.

Prior won his second event of the day, placing first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.57 and Ryan Schreffler was right behind him as the Bears took a lead 43.5-27.5 lead after the first four events.

At intermission, the two teams were tied, 63-63.

The Bears fell in the following four events with Carkhuff coming up just short in the 50-yard freestyle, missing out on first by .03 seconds. Prior then took his third event of the day, winning the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.13 before the Garnet took the next two events.

The Bears took first for the fifth time on the day after Mueser won his second event, placing first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.38.

The Garnet went on to win the final two events of the afternoon.

The Bears are back in action next Saturday when they swim at McDaniel.
