Bullets Hand Men's Swimming First Loss

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team put forth a game effort at six-time defending Centennial Conference champion Gettysburg, but the Bullets' overall strength was too much to overcome in a 152-110 decision on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Jacob Menzer and senior William Benn accounted for the Bears' four individual victories in their first league loss of the season. Menzer took first place in the 1000 free and 200 IM, dominating the latter by nearly four seconds, while Benn prevailed in both the 100 back and 200 back.

Menzer edged Gettysburg's Josh Parker by 1.40 seconds in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 9:57.45 to earn nine points for Ursinus. Senior Marcus Wagner was third in the event. The Bears' freshman phenom came back to take second in the 200 back, coming in 1.40 seconds behind Benn's 1:58.41, before routing the rest of the field with a clocking of 2:01.47 in the 200 IM.

Benn finished .30 seconds ahead of the Bullets' Jeff Ragatz in the 100 back, posting a mark of 54.14 seconds.

Freshman Casey Lear was runner-up in both the 100 free (48.77) and 200 free (1:46.62) for the Bears, and sophomore Maxwell Coulter turned in a pair of second-place showings in the 100 breast (1:01.49) and 200 breast (2:20.08), where classmate Reid Luksic was third.

Sophomore Johnathan Myers took second in the 200 fly (2:02.14), just in front of junior Colin McNamara in third. McNamara was second in the 100 fly (53.65).

Sophomore Travis Venables placed second in the 50 free (21.95), and Wagner did the same in the 500 free (4:54.91).

The Bears return to the friendly confines of Elliott Pool for a CC dual with Swarthmore on Tuesday, November 22.
