Wagner Selected CC Swimmer of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Junior Marcus Wagner has been named the Centennial Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.

Wagner was impressive in a 2-0 week for the Bears, who cruised to non-conference victories against Cabrini (127-67) and Albright (117-88) in their first duals of 2016.

Only about 12 hours after the Ursinus swimming teams returned from their winter trip to Florida, Wagner dominated the 200-yard freestyle against the Cavaliers, touching the wall in 1:47.65, more than five seconds of the next finisher. He then teamed with freshmen Thomas Bantley and Maxwell Coulter and sophomore Colin McNamara to place second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:27.56), that quartet finishing less than half a tick behind the winning group of freshman Daniel Becker, freshman Johnny Myers, junior William Benn, and freshman Travis Venables.

The next day, Wagner added two more individual victories to his ledger. The first came in the mile freestyle, where his time of 16:57.66 outpaced the runner-up – freshman teammate Kevin Gill – by nearly half a minute. Wagner concluded his afternoon with a first-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.49).

This is the first swimmer of the week honor for Wagner, an honorable mention all-conference performer as a freshman.

Wagner and the Bears return to their Centennial Conference slate with a dual at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, January 23.
