Men's Swimming Tops Albright in Non-Conference Finale

READING, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team got a test from Albright in this afternoon's non-conference dual, but the Bears managed to log a 117-88 victory, their second in as many days.

Junior William Benn, freshman Devin Nielsen, senior Christian Hoops, and sophomore Colin McNamara placed second in the meet-opening 400-yard medley relay for the Bears, with senior James Marrone, freshman Maxwell Coulter, senior Alec Keckman, and freshman Daniel Becker placing third.

Junior Marcus Wagner responded with a victory in the mile freestyle (16:57.66), where freshman Kevin Gill was runner-up in 17:25.23. Junior Dylan Cooper was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.57); sophomore Christopher Barthold placed third and Becker fourth.

Freshman Travis Venables turned in a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.88) before the Bears dominated the 200-yard IM, senior Keith Larkin leading the pack in 2:05.61 and Coulter (second) and freshman James Callaghan (third) adding more points to the Ursinus cause.

Hoops (54.48) and Heckman (55.51) placed second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly, and Cooper (49.85) and Venables (50.40) did the same in the 100-yard freestyle, where McNamara landed fourth.

Benn pulled away for a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (55.74), with Marrone taking third, and Wagner made it a second individual title with a clocking of 4:55.49 in the 500-yard freestyle; Barthold placed third, and Gill was fourth.

Nielsen was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Larkin placing third and freshman Reid Luksic touching the wall in fourth.

The Bears capped the meet with a victory from Venables, Cooper, Hoops, and McNamara in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.27).
