Starting Off Fast

The Ursinus College Men's swim team opened their season against Dickinson College on Saturday. The Bears opened the meet finishing second in the Medley Relay. The team of Will Benn, Devin Nielsen, Chris Hoops, and Colin McNamara swam to a time of 3:40.99 in the event.

Junior Marcus Wagner had an excellent day winning the 1000 Free with a time of 10:12.42, then later winning the 500 Free and leading off the 400 Free Relay in 50.92.

In the 200 Free, the Bears claimed the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions with sophmore Chris Barthold (1:51.40), junior Dylan Cooper, and freshman Kevin Gill all finishing within a half second of each other.

Freshman Devin Nielsen claimed the team record in the newly recognized 100 IM. His time of 56.64 earned him second in the event.

Other impressive swims included senior Chris Hoops going 2:00.54 in his 200 Fly. That time was enough for second. Dylan Cooper finished 2nd in the 100 Free with a time of 50.86, followed closely by freshman Travis Venables with a time of 50.95. Junior Will Benn finished 2nd in the 200 Back.

The Bears finished the meet with the Free Relay team of Marcus Wagner, Dylan Cooper, Colin McNamara, and Travis Venables earning second with a time of 3:18.71.

The Ursinus Bears return to competition at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 7th at York College of Pennsylvania where they'll swim a quad meet against York, St. Mary's of Maryland, and St. Vincent's College.
