Washington tops MSwim in Wild Finish, 132-130

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa - In the final meet of the season freshman William Benn placed first in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, while breaking a pool record in the 200 back, but Washington College edged Ursinus in the final event by .06 seconds to win 132-130 Saturday afternoon in Elliot Pool.

In the 200 yard medley relay, Ursinus finished second with Chase Renninger, Charles Messa, Chris Hoops, and John Wieczorek with a time of 1:39.17.

Ursinus swept the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle with Marcus Wagner finishing first at 9:57.87, Joe Gershun finishing second at 10:20.74 and Henry Nonack finished third at 10:37.45.

For the 200 freestyle, Alexander Pandelidis finished second with a time of 1:47.97, and Dylan Cooper finished third 1:50.91.

Benn finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.95 and finishing behind him in third was Renninger with a time of 54.43.

In the 100 breast stroke Ursinus had only one swimmer place in the top three, with Messa coming in third at 1:02.61.

For the 200 butterfly, Hoops finished in second with a time of 2:01.48 and Alec Heckman finished third with a time of 2:03.34.

Wieczorek was the only Ursinus swimmer to finish in the top three in the 50 freestyle, finishing in first place with a time of 21.79.

In the 100 freestyle, Pandelidis finished in second at 49.09 and Wieczorek finished in third at 50.12.

In the 200 backstroke, Benn took first place finishing with a pool record of 1:57.00 and Renninger finished third at 1:59.57. The old record was 1:57.37, set by Matt Jaffee of F&M in 2009.

For the 200 breast, Messa finished in third with a time of 2:20.97.

Wagner and Gershun took first and second place in the 500 freestyle with Wagner finishing at 4:51.12 and Gershun in second at 4:55.68

Hoops and Heckman both finished in the top three for the 100 butterfly with Hoops finishing in second with a time of 53.69 and Heckman finishing in third with 54.97.

In the 200 IM, Bears swimmer Jacob Robinson was the only one to finish in the top three placing in third with a time of 1:04.14.

In the final event for the afternoon Washington College slipped past Ursinus by .06 with Pandelidis, Cooper, Renninger and Wieczorek finishing in second with a time of 1:29.11 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Ursinus is finished with dual meet competition, and now turns their sights on the 2014 Centennial Conference Championships on Feb. 21-23.
