Getting Off To A Good Start

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team scored 342.5 points in the opening session of the Swarthmore Invitational on Friday night, holding a commanding 86.5 point lead over second place Swarthmore.

The Bears started by winning the opening 200 yard free relay with a time of 1:29.28, as the team of Jacob Robinson, Spencer Collopy, John Wieczorek and Chase Renninger beat the home team by just over a second.

The team of Keith Larking, Chris Hoops, Alec Heckman and Nick DiPalo took fifth.

In the 500 free, the Bears took the top six spots. Marcus Wagner won the event at 4:47.63, followed by Joe Gershun in second at 4:50.30. Dylan Cooper was third at 4:57.85, with Alexander Pandelidis fourth at 4:57.96, Henry Nonack fifth at 5:02.31 and Ben Jumper sixth at 5:06.52.

In the 200 IM, Robinson was second with a time of 2:01.63, with William Benn tied for fourth at 2:03.89. Larkin was sixth at 2:05.89.

Wieczorek was first in the 50 free at 22.26, with Renninger fifth at 22.82. Collopy was eighth at 23.21.

In the 400 medley relay, the team of Renninger, Charles Messa, Hoops and Wieczorek was first at 3:40.21, almost five seconds faster than the second-place squad. The team of Benn, Robinson, Heckman and Gershun were fifth at 4:38.25.
