Men's Swimming in third after day one of CC Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team is in third place with 158 points after the first day of the 2013 Centennial Conference championships hosted by F&M.

The Bears started the night session by taking fourth at 1:26.28 in the 200 free relay. The team of senior David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston Latin), junior John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./Saint Joseph), junior Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown Area), sophomore Benjamin Jumper (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) comprised the fourth place team.

In the B final, sophomore Josef Gershun (Southbury, Conn./Fork Union Military Academy), senior Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), freshman Nick DiPalo (Cherry Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and freshman Christian Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) took 12th at 1:29.67.

In the 500 free, senior Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) was fourth at 4:43.49, while Gershun was seventh at 4:48.58.  In the B final, Pandelidis was tenth at 4:47.85, while senior David Wagner (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was 15th at 4:53.20. In the morning prelims, Paine was fourth at 4:44.75, Gershun was fifth at 4:45.98. Pandelidis was ninth at 4:48.41, followed by Wagner in 16th place at 4:55.06. Gershun's morning swim was a personal record, while Pandelidis set a new PR in the night swim.

In the 200 IM, sophomore Jacob Robinson (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) was fourth at 1:56.00. Earlier in the day, he had finished fourth in the prelims at 1:56.05.  Robinson's 1:56.00 is a new school record.

The 50 free saw Yazbeck take seventh at 21.56 and Wieczorek finish eighth at 21.62. In the morning prelims, Yazbeck was sixth at 21.49 and Wieczorek tied for seventh at 21.60. 

In the final event of the night, the 400 medley relay, the team of Robinson, Hoops, Yazbeck and Wieczorek were fourth at 3:33.02, shaving 11 seconds off of their seed time. Paine, Quick, Pandelidis and Gershun were second in the B final at 3:33.90.
