Men's Swimming closes out dual meet schedule with win over Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown) won two individual events and was part of a winning relay as the Ursinus College men's swimming team closed its dual meet season with a 109-96 win over Washington College on Saturday.

Paine captured the 1000 free (10:16.78) and the 500 free (4:52.71) and was part of the winning 200 free relay as the Bears finished the dual meet season with a 7-3 overall record and a 3-3 Centennial mark.

Also part of that winning relay was junior Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown), senior David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston Latin) and junior John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph) with a time of 1:29.16.

Ursinus actually led 77-75 with three events to go and won the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, the last event of the day.

Sophomore Jacob Robinson (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) was the other first place finisher, winning the 200 back at 2:04.30.

Six different swimmers won second place on the day, with senior David Wagner (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) taking second in the 1000 free at 10:46.04. Pandelidis was second in the 200 free at 1:50.38, with Yazbeck going second in the 50 free at 23.00. Robinson was second in the 400 IM at 4:27.04, followed by freshman Christian Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) second in the 200 fly at 2:03.18.

Also taking second was Wieczorek in the 100 free at 48.97 and senior Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) in the 200 breast at 2:21.69.

Five swimmers were third in their events, with freshman Kevin Larkin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) (200 breast, 2:26.23; 400 IM, 4:47.05), sophomore Benjamin Jumper (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) (50 free, 23.10; 200 back, 2:09.55) and sophomore Josef Gershun (Southbury, Conn./Fork Union) (500 free, 5:06.23; 200 free, 1:51.23) each taking two third place finishes.

Freshman Henry Nonack (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) was third in the 1000 free at 10:52.12.

Ursinus rests before heading to the Centennial Conference Championships on Feb. 22-24 at Franklin & Marshall.
