Men's Swimming opens home slate with win over Salisbury

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team opened up its home schedule Saturday afternoon with a 109-91 win over Salisbury.

The Bears took first in seven events, before swimming exhibition in the last three events on the afternoon.

The Bears opened up by going 1-2-3 in the 400 yard medley relay. The winning team was sophomore Jacob Robinson (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic), senior Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), freshman Christian Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) and sophomore Joe Gershun (Southbury, Conn./Fork Union Military Academy) with a time of 3:44.26, followed by the team of sophomore Benjamin Jumper (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs), senior David Yazbeck (Dorcester Center, Mass./Boston Latin School),  junior Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown) and senior Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown) with a time of 3:49.09.

In the 200 free, Paine won with a time of 1:48.87, followed by Jumper in third place at 1:55.95.

Yazbeck captured the 50 free at 22.61, with freshman Steven Valverde (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) in third place at 24.20.

Robinson took first in the 400 IM at 4:29.61, with sophomore Phil Saxon (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) in third place at 4:38.72.

Hoops grabbed a first-place finish in the 200 fly at 2:08.35, with freshman Keith Larkin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) going third at 2:20.33.

Junior John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./Milltown) was first in the 100 free at 50.00, followed by Quick in third place at 51.95.

Finally, Gershun was first in the 500 free at 5:07.37 followed by Pandelidis in second place at 5:10.36.

Senior David Wagner was second in the 1000 free at 10:56.52, with freshman Henry Nonack (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) in second place at 2:10.95 in the 200 back. Freshman James Marrone (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Croton-Harmon) was third in the 200 back at 2:11.95.

Ursinus will host Albright on Wednesday.
