Arriving To A Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Ursinus picked up top finishes in the last two events as the Bears held off Swarthmore, 110-95 in a competitive Centennial Conference meet Tuesday night.

Ursinus picked up 23 points in the final two events, as junior Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) won the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:18.53, then the Bears won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:30.76 as the team of junior Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) , junior David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston Latin School), freshman Joe Gershun (Southbury, Conn./Fork Union Military Academy) and freshman Benjamin Jumper (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) won the event.

Paine gave the Bears their first individual win of the day as he took the top spot in the 1000 free at 10:19.35, with Gershun taking second at 10:27.98.

In the 200 free, sophomore Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) won the event at 1:49.89, with senior Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) taking second at 1:50.06. Sophomore John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph) took second in the 50 free at 22.60, with freshman Jacob Robinson (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) taking the silver medal in the 200 IM at 2:04.55. Quick finished third in the event at 2:04.87.

Smith was tops in the 200 fly at 2:01.61, with Pandelidis taking second at 2:07.96. Wieczorek was second in the 100 free at 50.08.

Paine and Robinson took 1-2 in the 200 back at 2:02.18 and 2:05.72, respectively.

Gershun was a silver medalist in the 500 back at 5:01.98.
