Men's Swimming fifth at Centennials

GETTYSBURG, Pa.- The Ursinus College men's swimming team finished up its three day run at the Centennial Conference Championships with a total team score of 434.5 points, good enough for fifth place.

For the Bears, senior Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) and junior Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) became the first two Ursinus men's swimmers to win Centennial Conference gold during the final session Sunday evening.

Tannenbaum won the 1650 free during the evening session with a time of 16:21.76, with Smith winning the 200 butterfly later on during the session with a time of 1:55.60. Smith had earned the number one seed in the 200 fly earlier in the day with a time of 1:56.12, which had set a new pool record until his gold medal performance during the finals.

Tannenbaum also collected a second place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.08, shaving off six seconds from his preliminary time. He was also seventh in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:46.29.

Sophomore David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston Latin School) finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.77, with sophomore Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) in third place at 1:00.22. Yazbeck finished sixth in the 50 free at 21.58 and also finished seventh in the 100 free with a time of 48.38.

Paine picked up a seventh place finish in the 500 free at 4:47.39, with Smith taking eighth at 4:50.70. Smith was also eighth in the 100 butterfly at 53.47.

In the relays, Paine, Yazbeck, Smith and Tannenbaum were fourth in the 400 medley at 3:34.00. The team of Smith, Paine, Tannenbaum and freshman Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) were third in the 800 free at 7:06.68.

Paine, Yazbeck, Smith and freshman John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph High School) were fifth in the 200 medley at 1:38.73. In the 400 relay, the team of Yazbeck, Smith, Paine and Tannenbaum finished fifth with a time of 3:13.61.
