Men's Swimming closes out regular season with win over Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Ursinus finished up the regular season on Saturday with a 118-81 win over Washington College on Saturday afternoon in men's swimming action. The Bears finished the regular season with a mark of 6-5, 2-4 in the Centennial.

The Bears took the top spot in eight of the first nine events before going into exhibition late in the meet.

Senior Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) and freshman Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) went 1-2 in the 1000 yard freestyle as Tannenbaum won the event with a time of 10:26.77, followed by Pandelidis in second at 10:40.10. In the 100 fly, Tannenbaum was first at 57.45, followed by Pandelidis in second at 57.62.

In the 200 free, sophomore Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) was first with a mark of 1:49.47, followed by junior Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) in second at 1:50.95. In the 50 free, sophomore Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) was first at 22.62, with sophomore David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston Latin School) in second at 22.76. Sophomore Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) took third at 23.41.

Freshman John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph High School) was first in the 100 free at 49.83, with Quick taking second at 50.51. In the 100 back, Paine was first at 56.78.

In their final scoring event, Smith was first in the 500 free at 5:03.31, with sophomore David Wagner (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) in second at 5:16.72. Junior Kevin Tallon (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) was third at 5:20.98.

Ursinus won the first relay event of the day, with the team of Paine, Yazbeck, Wieczorek and Furlong winning the 200 medley at 1:44.06.

Ursinus will compete in the Centennial Conference Championships at Gettysburg in two weeks.
