Men's Swimming finishes first semester with win over LVC

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team closed up the first semester with a 113-82 win over Lebanon Valley, snapping a three-meet losing streak heading into the winter break.

The Bears started off hot, going 1-2 in the 200 yard medley relay as the team of junior Chris Doyle (Holliston, Mass./Holliston), freshman Charles Messa (Parkland, Fla./North Broward School), sophomore Philip Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) and junior Kevin Tallon (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) won the event at 1:48.72, while freshman Doug Hickey (South Waverly, Pa./Sayre Area), freshman Mark Hickey (South Waverly, Pa./Sayre Area), sophomore David Yazbeck  and junior Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) was second at 1:51.53.

Senior Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) cruised to a victory in the 1650 free, winning the event at 17:52.19, with freshman Alexander Pandelidis (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) taking second at 18:14.25, followed by sophomore David Wagner (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) in third at 18:41.82. Sophomore Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) swam exhibition in the event, and finished with the top time of 17:08.92.

In the 200 free, freshman John Wieczorek (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph High School) was first at 1:56.61, followed by sophomore Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) in second at 1:58.19 and sophomore Jacob Frey (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) in third at 2:00.49.

In the 50 free, Doyle was second at 23.76, followed by sophomore Nicholas Roberts (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) in third at 24.11.

Quick won the 400 IM at 4:43.70, with Mark Hickey going second at 5:06.31. Wieczorek was first in the 100 fly at 59.55, followed by Yazbeck in second at 1:01.50 and Thomas Steiner in third at 1:01.99.

In the 100 free, Furlong was second at 52.41 with Roberts third at 53.39. Doug Hickey took second in the 100 back at 1:02.56.

In the 500 free, Smith won the event at 5:05.89, followed by Tallon in second at 5:29.01 and freshman Jonathan Lawrence (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) in third at 5:37.41.

Ursinus, who will be off until January 15, then swam exhibition in the final two events.
