WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ursinus swept its Centennial Conference
opener on Saturday, as the Bears won both sides of a meet from
McDaniel.
The women won 59-35, while the men won 51-43. Both teams are now
4-0 and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference.
Like the women, the men won the opening event, taking the
400-medley relay with a time of 3:53.78. Freshman David
Wagner (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), freshman Philip
Quick (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional), sophomore
Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep)
and sophomore Christopher Doyle (Holliston,
Mass./Holliston) picked up the win.
In the 1000-free, freshman Scott Paine (York,
Pa./Dallastown Area) picked up top honors with a tim e of
10:29.57.
In the 200-free, junior Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher,
Pa./Upper Dublin) finished second with a time of
1:50.42.
In the 50-free, freshman David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center,
Mass./Boston Latin School) finished first at 22.88.
Quick picked up his first individual top finish of the day as he
won the 200-IM at 2:08.32. Smith was second in the 200-fly at
2:02.05.
In the 100-free, Yazbeck won event number two of the day with a
time of 50.34. Paine got his second top finish of the day in the
200-back at 2:05.83, followed by freshman Jeremy Gencavage
(Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) in second at
2:28.92.
Tannenbaum won the 500-free with a time of 5:04.05, just edging
McDaniel’s Stephen Gomez by .06 seconds.
That was the final event Ursinus scored in. The Bears host
Gettysburg next Saturday.
