COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College swimming team
improved to 3-0 on the young season with a dual meet sweep of Drew
on Friday night.
The men won by a score of 107-68, while the women won 108-61.
For the men, the Bears opened with a 1-2 finish in the 200-medley
relay. The team of sophomore Christopher Smith (Wayne,
Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep), freshman David
Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston Latin School),
sophomore Kevin Tallon (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern
Regional) and sophomore Christopher Doyle
(Holliston, Mass./Holliston) won the event with a time of
1:47.88, while the team of freshman David Wagner
(Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), senior Brad Garman
(Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), freshman Ryan
Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) and freshman
Adam McGonigle (Villanova, Pa./Harriton) took
second at 1:50.38.
In the 1000-free, freshman Nicholas Roberts (Metuchen,
N.J./Metuchen) finished second with a time of
11:51.45.
McGonigle won his first individual event of the day, capturing the
200-free with a time of 2:00.18. Junior Lloyd Tannenbaum
(Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) won the 50-free with a time of
22.88, with freshman Scott Paine (York, Pa./Dallastown
Area) finishing second with a time of 23.44.
In the 200-IM, Smith won the event with a time of 2:10.68.
In the 100-fly, freshman Jeremy Gencavage (Fork Union,
Va./Fork Union Military Academy) won the event at 1:00.85,
while Tallon was second at 1:01.51. In the 100-free, Doyle took the
top spot at 52.19, with Furlong finishing second at 54.93.
In the 100-back, freshman Philip Quick (Bridgeton,
N.J./Cumberland Regional) finished in first place with a
time of 58.66, with Wagner finishing second at 59.32.
In the final scoring event of the night for the Bears, Roberts took
second in the 500-free at 5:41.58.
