SWARTHMORE, Pa. – In a meet that came down to the final
two events, the Ursinus College women’s team narrowly
defeated Swarthmore by a 106-99 score. In the men’s meet,
Swarthmore defeated the Bears 131-74.
The women, with the win, improved to 5-1, 2-1 in the Centennial,
while the men fell to 4-2 and 1-2 in the Centennial.
Ursinus picked up a first-place finish in the 1000-free as junior
Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) won
the event with a time of 10:21.04. Freshman Scott Paine
(York, Pa./Dallastown Area) won the 200-free with a time
of 1:51.00.
Sophomore Chris Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph’s
Prep) was first in the 200-fly at 2:02.05, with Paine
picking up his second top finish of the night in the 200-back at
2:01.60.
In the final event of the night, Smith, Tannenbaum, sophomore
Chris Doyle (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and
freshman David Yazbeck (Dorchester Center, Mass./Boston
Latin School) won the 400-free relay with a time of
3:23.02, just .04 ahead of Swarthmore’s ‘A’ team.
