PHILADELPHIA – Ursinus men's soccer junior Marco Grenda was selected to the PhillySIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-Area team on Monday afternoon.
To be nominated, student-athletes need to have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and have completed at least one full year of classes at their current institution. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Grenda earns his first accolade from PhillySIDA in his collegiate career following a breakout season on the field and a strong performance in the classroom as well. He earned All-Centennial First team honors after tying for first in the Centennial with 12 goals and tied for seventh with four assists. Grenda was at his best in the biggest of stages as he scored both goals for the Bears in their 2-1 upset win over eventual Centennial Champion Washington College in overtime. He also delivered the Bears only goal of the game in their 1-0 upset of Johns Hopkins, who was ranked fifth in Division III at the time.
A Health & Exercise Physiology major, Grenda continues to add to his academic accolades after being named the Centennial Conference Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year. His 3.90 cumulative GPA was the highest among juniors and seniors on the All-Centennial team.
