Mollis Bags Brace as Men's Soccer Rolls

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Tommy Mollis' brace headlined a trio of first-time goal-scorers who led the Ursinus College men's soccer team to a 5-0 rout of Gwynedd Mercy in Thursday night's home opener.

Mollis scored the first two goals of the night in a four-minute stretch early in the first half before Vinny Carosella and Patrick Tormey also netted for the first time. Marco Grenda found the back of the net for the third straight game for the Bears, who held the Griffins without a shot in picking up a second consecutive victory.

The Bears threatened from the outset, with Marco Grenda's dipping shot from the edge of the box tipped over the top by the Griffins keeper and Kevin Devlin firing just over with a lefty shot.

Mollis opened his collegiate account in the 10th minute, dribbling around a defender and burying a shot into the lower right corner. Less than five minutes later he was at it again, nestling a curling shot over the keeper's head and into the upper right corner of the net to make it a 2-0 affair.

Mollis nearly completed a first-half hat trick in the 22nd minute, but went a whisker high with a rocket right-footed shot.

Grenda netted a poacher's goal in the 26th minute, when the Gwynedd Mercy keeper batted Issi Brainsky's in-swinging corner right off Grenda and into the net to extend the junior's goal-scoring streak to three games.

Carosella joined Mollis in the scoring column for the first time in his career, pegging the top left corner with a long-range angled shot from distance in the 38th minute.

The second half was a quiet affair until the 82nd minute, when Luke Luehrs back-heeled a pass for Tormey, who ripped a shot outside the box for his first goal.

The Bears were thoroughly dominant, posting all 29 shots in the game and taking eight corner kicks. Tyler Lewin played the first half before being replaced by Kyle Schantz and Peter Schoenberg in a combined shutout.

Ursinus is back on the road to face Neumann on Saturday.
