Men's Soccer Falls in Double-OT Thriller

Men's Soccer Falls in Double-OT Thriller

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Ursinus College men's soccer team pushed Stockton to the limit before falling victim to an overtime game-winner as the Ospreys walked off with a 2-1 overtime thriller in Thursday night's season opener.

Marco Grenda put the Bears in front in the 34th minute, sticking a shot home following a scramble in front. Stockton equalized right after halftime, then netted the golden goal about three minutes into the second extra session.

Tyler Lewin was terrific between the pipes for the Bears, making several highlight-reel stops among his nine saves.

The Ospreys held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the first half, but were unable to put one past Lewin and the Bears' back line. That changed in the 51st minute, when Stockton was awarded a penalty and pulled level on a strike by Ervin Gjeli.

Both teams had changes for the remainder of regulation, but neither could find a winner. After 10 scoreless minutes, Dante Montesinos scored off a rebound to deal the Bears a hard-fought defeat.

The men's soccer team stays on the road to take on Albright on Saturday night.

Notes

  • Grenda's goal was the second of his career
  • Lewin's nine saves matched the second-highest total of his career
  • Stockton outshot the Bears, 18-8, and earned 12 corners to Ursinus' four
